Levels of Certification
There are currently three levels of certification given by the IISA. For more details on the IISA Instructors Certification Program (ICP), look at http://www.iisa.org/icp/.
- Level 1 Certification:
- is for the entry-level instructor who wants to teach the fundamentals of
in-line skating based on a standardized format of teaching. Instructors are
qualified to teach such things as moving, stopping and turning.
- Level 2 Certification:
- is for the experienced Level 1 Instructor who wishes to enhance
class-handling skills, problem solving and intermediate-level skill
development. Level 2 Instructors teach skills such as backward movement,
alternative stopping, cross-overs and street-skating awareness.
- Level 3 Certification:
- includes certifications in high skill areas such as in-line hockey, racing, skate-to-ski, freestyle dance, street vert and ramp.

Background David Miles is known as the "Godfather of Skating" of the San Francisco skating scene. He has skated from San Francisco six (6) times in the "Skate Against Violence". David is President of the California Outdoor Rollerskating Association that has over 300 members and Coordinator of the Golden Gate Park Skate Patrol. This group helps injured skaters and other park users in Golden Gate Park on Sundays when the park is closed to car traffic. David is also leader of the Midnight Rollers "Friday Night Skate". This group averages between 400 and 500 skaters that meet every Friday to skate a 12 mile route through San Francisco city streets at night. This is the largest group of it's kind in the world.
